Danny Green believes Sixers should keep Ben Simmons, play the long game

The Philadelphia 76ers have a decision to make as the Feb. 10 trade deadline approaches. They obviously have a huge choice to make when it comes to the Ben Simmons situation and coach Doc Rivers has already addressed it, but the Sixers have to decide whether to settle or not in a Simmons deal.
As the Sixers move forward, they want a top 25 player in return for one of the game’s bright stars. It does not seem that they can get that type of value in exchange for Simmons at the deadline and they will have more success in the offseason when they can possibly grab a guy like Damian Lillard or James Harden.
Around the time of the deadline, the Sixers will have to decide what to do in order to contend for a title during Joel Embiid’s prime years, and Danny Green believes the Sixers should wait it out and see what they can get in the offseason:
I agree with what’s available. I don’t think people are making available what we can get in return for that trade. So I say keep him, but I don’t think we’re wasting a year, but you don’t want a year of where you could possibly be a contender, but you’re not because of one guy sitting out. So you want to try to explore that option and it’s tough. It’s hard to find the value in bringing something in and something back. Obviously, they’re talking about trades with everybody. Everybody else’s name is in the mix. You don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t know if it’s possible, if it even will happen. A lot of it is just talk and some people pull the trigger and panic, you know before the deadline. So you never know what’s gonna happen. You’ll see some interesting things that happen and panic before the deadline. So you never know what’s gonna happen. You’ll see some interesting things that happen before the cutoff.
The notion around the Sixers at the moment is that they could be wasting a year of Embiid’s prime by punting this season away while waiting on the right value for Simmons. However, Green disagrees with that notion and wants the Sixers to get what they can for him:
I just don’t think there’s anything out there that’s available, that you’ll get back in value or close to what we need to be the contender that we want to be with him. So I think Daryl Morey is smart in playing the long game and hoping and seeing at the deadline of after deadline, that he may come back. He may have to come join us. I think Daryl plays the long game and gets what he wants in return or keeps him and tries to make it work or make him after All-Star break. Kind of figure it out.
Simmons has already made it clear that he does not intend to throw on a Sixers uniform ever again, but maybe Philadelphia can change his mind on all of that as the season continues.
