Danville cancels remainder of 2022 varsity football season

The Little Johns end their 2022 football campaign just two games into the season.

Administrators with the Danville School District, located in Yell County, notified the Arkansas Activities Association on Tuesday that the varsity season was canceled due to the team not having enough players.

Danville began the season with nonconference losses against Mountainburg and Magazine and was scheduled to travel to Hector. The Little Johns play in the 3A-4 with Paris. That game was originally set for Nov. 4. Since Danville had yet to play a conference game, all the games are deleted from the schedule and no forfeits will be rewarded.

This was the second season for coach Kody Hamlin at Danville. The team finished 3-6 last year and averaged 30 points per game with a 14-man roster. The three conference wins were enough to get the Little Johns a spot in the Class 3A playoffs, where it fell to Manila, 49-25, in the first round.

The Little Johns will continue its junior high football program this fall.
