Danville volleyball team enjoys a night of milestones in sweep of Lone Tree

The Danville High School volleyball team had plenty to celebrate on Monday night.

The Bears' 25-16, 25-14, 25-8 SEI Superconference non-division win over Lone Tree at Danville High School was the team's 10th win of the season, the most victories in a season since the 2012 team went 19-10.

That was the culmination of a night in which Danville celebrated Jaeda Molle's 500th career assists and Carlea Beckman's 500th career dig.

In head coach Shaelyn Thomann's second year at the helm, the Bears are a program on the rise.

Molle added to her total with 20 assists to go along with five kills and three assists. Beckman had two kills, three assists and five aces. Kenna Furnald had 13 kills, five aces and three digs. Rylee Morris had five kills, four aces and one block. Micah Svoboda had one kill, three aces and three digs. Alexis Dietsch had three kills and two aces. Taegan Frazer had three kills and one block.

The Bears were 65-of-66 with 22 aces from the service line.

NO. 15 NEW LONDON 25-25-25, CARDINAL 13-8-5: Class 1A's 15th-ranked Tigers disposed of their former SEI Superconference South Division foe Comets in straight sets at Charles Lorber Gymnasium in New London.

Emma Nye had five assists, five aces and seven digs for the Tigers. Elly Manning had two kills, 30 assists, three aces and seven digs. Sophie Malott had eight kills, five aces and seven digs. Natalie Burden had 17 kills, two aces and five digs. Tysann Gipple had five kills. Camryn Lair had five kills and one dig. Morgan Jones had one kill, four aces and two digs.

KEWANEE WETHERSFIELD 25-25, WEST CENTRAL 17-8: Harlee Hainds had three kills, six digs and three blocks and Shelby Bowman had two kills and seven digs in the Heat's Lincoln Trail Conference loss to the Flying Geese at The Fire Pit.

West Central fell to 6-13 overall, 1-5 in the conference.

ILLINI WEST 25-25, MERCER COUNTY 14-22: Reagan Reed and Josie Bryan each had eight kills and Madalyn Boyer added six kills in the Chargers' win at Aledo, Illinois.

Bryan led the Chargers with 12 assists, while Reed put up seven assists.

Kaelyn Ferrill had 13 digs for the Chargers, while Abi White had 11 and Bryan had seven.

Bryan had 15 service points and three aces, while Reed had six service points and one ace and Boyer had five service points and two aces.

Illini West (18-5) plays Tuesday at Bushnell-Prairie City.

ED STONE SPLITS AT MOUNT PLEASANT: The Burlington seventh grade teams split two matches at Mount Pleasant.

The "Adventurous" team lost 21-17, 21-18. Josie Newell had eight aces, one assist and two kills for Burlington. Ava Brandenburg had two aces and one assist. Ty'Rhianna (Tari) Morris had two kills. Alyssa Burchett had one kill. Caris Jolin and Leah Sieren each had one assist.

The "Bold" team won, 21-17, 21-14. Amariana (Mari) Chew had six aces and one kill. Naomi Lewis had five aces and one kills. Florrah Mehaffy had two aces and one assist. Grace Scott had three aces. Ty'Kria Roach had three kills. Trinity Dillard had two aces. Eliza Ertz had one assist.

CROSS COUNTRY

AREA TEAMS COMPETE AT HILLCREST ACADEMY: Mediapolis finished third in the boys team standings and Danville-New London was fourth at Kalona.

Solomon Zaugg of Mediapoli was the top boys finisher, taking fifth in 17 minutes, 15.26 seconds. Ben Carthey of Mount Pleasant was sixth in 17:21.83, while Owen Schmidgall was seventh in 17:36.31. Rylan Martin of Danville-New London was 10th in 17:48.39. Garrett Dickey was Wapello's top finisher, taking 44th in 20:39.32.

Pella won the boys team title with 25 points. Mediapolis was third with 84 points, six behind Washington. Danville-New London was fourth with 107 points, Mount Pleasant was fifth with 116 points and Wapello was eighth with 236.

Danville-New London freshman Alaina Gourley finished third in the girls race in 20:42.69. Mount Pleasant's Isabelle Meador was ninth in 21:54.02. Kenadee Helscher was Wapello's top finisher, taking 31st in 24:38.36. Shelby Schultz paced Mediapolis, taking 34th in 25:13.47.

Pella won the team title with 24 points. Mount Pleasant was fourth with 97 points, Danville-New London was fifth with 105 points and Mediapolis was sixth with 170 points.

BOYS GOLF

ILLINI WEST QUALIFIES FOR STATE: Illini West finished second with a 331 team total at a Class 1A sectional tournament at Mason City, Illinois, to qualify for the state meet.

The state tournament is Friday and Saturday at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington, Illinois.

Colby Robertson led the Chargers with a 77, while Nick Bruns carded a 78, Nolan Deitrich had an 83, Wesley Robertson had a 93, Hayden Wood had a 101 and Luke Jacob shot a 106.

Brayson Smeltser of West Hancock shot a 94.

In a Class 1A sectional tournament at Riverdale, West Central's Ethan Nichols saw his season come to a close after carding a 97.

GIRLS GOLF

AREA TRIO SEES SEASON END: A trio of area golfer had their seasons come to a close at a Class 1A sectional tournament at Kewanee, Illinois.

West Central's Elaina Fisher fired a 97, teammate Alexis Strack carded a103 and West Hancock's Olivia Bell had a 113.
