The Brigadier General Richard Winn Chapter of the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Spring Hill recently named Jackie Zigelski as its Outstanding Teacher of the Year in American History.

The Tennessee Society of the DAR hosts the Outstanding Teacher of American History Contest each year to honor notable full-time teachers of history and related fields, who have demonstrated excellence. The Brigadier General Richard Winn Chapter selected Zigelski to recognize that she is an outstanding teacher, who has an incisive knowledge of American History and fosters a spirit of patriotism and commitment among her students.

Zigelski has inspired her students to achieve success in a variety of endeavors as debate team champions and award-winning researchers. Most notably, two of her students at Summit High School were selected to have their historical research project on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History Learning Lab.

The chapter presented Zigelski with a framed certificate and monetary gift in recognition of her accomplishments.

“She was so humbled and remarked that, in the times we are in now, something positive is so welcomed,” said Betty Chinery, Brigadier Richard Winn Chapter Historian.

“She is so thankful that her students are passionate about American History.”
