Darcelle has a heart of gold and had so much love for the world. And the world loved her in return. The community has lost a true ICON."

Darcelle was born on November 16, 1930 in Portland, served in the U.S. Armed Forces, and was discharged after the Korean War in the 1950s.

That wasn't the only history Darcelle made. As reported by Them, the bar she performed at, Darcelle XV Showplace, "is known for hosting the longest-running drag show on the West Coast. The venue was nominated for national historic registry status in June 2020, becoming the first LGBTQ+ establishment in Oregon to be considered. It was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in November 2020."
