Darius Slayton believes Giants offense can be ‘explosive’

New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton burst onto the scene last year as a rookie and won over the fans — and his teammates — with a steam of steady performances, a penchant for big plays and a team-leading eight receiving touchdowns.

The fifth-round steal out of Auburn built quite a rapport with another rookie, quarterback Daniel Jones, and ended the season with 48 receptions for 740 yards.

The plan is to expand on all of that in Year 2 as Slayton now has a firm role in a receiving game that also consists of Golden Tate, Sterling Shepard, tight end Evan Engram and running backs Saquon Barkley and Dion Lewis.

On Wednesday, Slayton spoke with the Giants beat reporters via video conference, and even though social distancing was not an issue, wore a face covering anyway.

“It’s definitely been an interesting offseason,” said Slayton through the mask. “But we have a lot of time to get in a lot of good work and I am looking forward to the season.”

Lat year, Slayton had more opportunities as rookie due to Tate’s four-game suspension, Shepard’s missed time due to two concussions and injuries to both Barkley and Engram.

Slayton also said that he did a lot of drills at home with the help of his family. He stuck around to help out due to the coronavirus. He also said he likes the new offense which allows everyone an opportunity.

Slayton believes the Giants can be “explosive” this year.
