Dark Side: Pink Floyd tribute band Brit Floyd comes to Elmira's First Arena. What to know

It's been half a century since British band Pink Floyd released its landmark "Dark Side of the Moon" album, and fans will have an opportunity to experience a tribute to that music in person this month in Elmira.

Tribute band Brit Floyd, formed in 2011 to emulate the music, soundscapes and visuals of Pink Floyd's catalog, will perform at the First Arena as part of its 2023 world tour celebrating the release of "Dark Side of the Moon."

The original Pink Floyd, founded in 1965, became famous for its psychedelic songs, elaborate stage productions and extended compositions. Several members of the band have performed with Brit Floyd over the years.

Brit Floyd, which bills itself as "the world's greatest Pink Floyd experience," currently has 11 members, including founding member Damian Darlington, who serves as guitarist, vocalist and musical director.

Darlington spent 17 years as a musical director for the "Australian Pink Floyd Show" prior to breaking away to form his own band.

Brit Floyd often includes guest musicians in its performances, including original Pink Floyd members such as bassist/vocalist Guy Pratt and saxophonist Scott Page.

Elmira is one of 18 concert stops in August on the band's worldwide tour. The band also has a concert scheduled in Saratoga Springs on Aug. 22. An additional 17 performances are scheduled for October through December, with more dates still to be announced.

The Brit Floyd Elmira performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. Aug. 23 at the First Arena, 155 N. Main St.
