Lucile's lifelong passion for the Ozarks and its history shaped her career as a journalist and writer. She grew up in Dadeville, Missouri, attended college in Springfield, and later became a newspaper reporter in Denver, Colorado, and El Paso, Texas. She later began a long career editing the Over the Ozarks column for Springfield Newspapers, which focused on the history of Springfield and the Ozarks region.
