Darren Criss thanks Filipino mother at the Golden Globes
11 Jan – Hollywood actor Darren Criss recently attracted attention when he dedicated his Golden Globe win to his Filipino mother, Cerina Bru.
As reported on ABS-CBN, the actor, who was named Best Actor for the category of Limited Series or TV Movie for his performance as serial killer Andrew Cunanan in "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story", thanked various people for his success, including his mother, who hails from Cebu.
"This has been a marvelous year for representation in Hollywood, and I am so enormously proud to be a teeny tiny part of that as the son of a firecracker Filipino woman from Cebu that dreamed of coming into this country and getting to be invited to cool parties like this."
"Mom, I know you're watching this. You are hugely responsible for most of the good things in my life. I love you dearly. I dedicate this to you. This is totally awesome," he added.
Speaking to the media following his speech, Criss stated that being half Filipino is one of his favourite things about himself.
"I feel like I've been given a superhero cape. If there's anyone in the Filipino community that looks to my work as a source of inspiration or direction, sign me up. I'm on board for that. It's a great privilege and it means the world to me. I'm very proud," he added.
