A Dartmouth farm that supplied produce to Sid Wainer & Son has sold. Here's what it sold for.

Purchased in 2009 for $4,050,000, 443 Barneys Joy Road in Dartmouth has been a valuable part of Sid Wainer & Son for decades. Once known as Jansal Valley Farm, the company rebranded the farm in 2016 as the Wainer Family Farm. This was in an effort to reestablish the family’s commitment to sustainability and its support for the local farm community, said Allie Wainer, executive vice president in a previous Standard-Times article. Now, this agriculture dream property has been sold for a substantial amount.

Sid Wainer & Son, a staple in New Bedford, was founded on downtown's cobblestone streets over a century ago. The premier importer and distributor of specialty produce and specialty foods is nationally known for supplying restaurants, caterers, private chefs, and retailers with products and high-end goods.

Wainer Family farm inspired chefs — locally and nationally

Dedicated to local sustainable agriculture the Wainer Family Farm was a major proponent of farm-to-table, growing herbs,  greens, heirloom tomatoes, and more that were then transformed into dishes appearing on many tables across the SouthCoast. Growing the relationship between chefs and the farm was pivotal for the Wainer family, in the article Wainer said that the farm is a source and teaching tool for chefs and retailers, and continues to provide the freshest of products. The farm was also host to a Celebrity Chef Farm-to-Table Dinner in partnership with the James Beard Foundation. This star-studded event showcased seven master celebrity chefs who created a multicourse dinner with locally sourced produce from the Wainer Farm.

Sid Wainer & Son was then sold

In 2020, after creating a legacy of food throughout the Southcoast, Sid Wainer & Son was bought by The Chefs' Warehouse, described on its website as “a family-operated specialty food distributor that has been purveying high-quality artisan ingredients for chefs for over 30 years.” During the acquisition, the Wainer family kept the farm.

SouthCoast farm is the highest home sale this year

According to Zillow, The Wainer Family Farm was first listed for sale in July of 2022 for $4,500,000, it was then listed for rent in November of 2022 for $3,000 a month, until it was ultimately sold in March of 2023 for $2,800,000 to Buzzards Bay Coalition, according to the Registry of Deeds.

The SouthCoast farm is the highest sale of the year in the SouthCoast according to Pinergy MLS data. It features 22 acres of farmland with a 1,600-square-foot modern farmhouse and a 3,200-square-foot barn. Situated on acres of land and wooded grounds is a picturesque farmhouse with an inviting farmer’s porch. The home with hardwood floors throughout boasts two bedrooms, a chef’s kitchen, and two cozy fireplaces. The barn was built for a farm-to-table experience like none other, with a walk-in refrigerator, expansive prep area, and a large storage area. The property is 800 feet from the DNRT’s Ocean View Farm Reserve allowing an ocean breeze to add even more to this alluring atmosphere.
