Dartmouth's 20 highest paid employees in 2023. Here's what they made.
DARTMOUTH — Eleven police officers, six members of the School Department, and three town-side employees made up the top 20 highest paid Dartmouth town employees in 2023.
The list is of gross earnings, including overtime, third-party details and buyouts where applicable.
The 2022 list also included 11 police officers, but also included eight School Department employees with one town-side employee: Town Administrator Shawn MacInnes.
MacInnes was second on the list both years, making $191,526.82 in 2023 and $186,523.84 in 2022.
School Dept. employee tops list
The top person on the list both years was a member of the School Department: James Kiely, assistant superintendent finance/operations, at $196,506 in 2023; and former Superintendent Bonny Gifford, who has retired, at $200,918.59 in 2022.
The other two, town-side employees cracking the top 20 in 2023 were Christopher Michaud, $143,314.99, director of public health, for number 12 on the list; and Timothy Barber, $138,374.55, director of public works, at 17.
Michaud's pay included a $31,325.03 buyout for comp time earned but not taken for fiscal 2023 per his union contract, according to Randall Kay, town payroll manager.
Police chief tops department
The top paid police official in 2023 was Chief Brian Levesque at $186,591.35, who was third on the list.
Levesque topped the police in 2022, as well, coming in third overall again at $181,717.49.
The gross pay for nine of the 11 police officers listed for 2023 was augmented by overtime and third party details.

The time earned but not taken as lieutenant was bought out since he is now under his new contract terms for accruals)
