Dates To Know In Washington Heights And Inwood This Week

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — Patch has compiled a list of events residents in Inwood and Washington Heights might want to know about in the coming week.

From community board meetings, to local art exhibitions, to virtual jazz performances, here are the dates to know for the week of Jan. 18.

Ongoing Events:

Dyckman Farmhouse: "Unspoken Voices: Honoring The Legacy Of Black America": The Dyckman Farmhouse at 4881 Broadway has a current exhibition with three local Upper Manhattan artists who were each inspired by the research that Dyckman Farmhouse has been doing about people previously enslaved at the property.

Morris-Jumel Mansion: COVIDA — Homage To Victims Of The Pandemic: The Morris-Jumel Mansion at 65 Jumel Terrace, near West 163rd Street, has an outdoor public art installation that pays tribute to the lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The exhibit was created by Andrea Arroyo, who lives a couple of blocks away from the installation in Washington Heights.

Word Up Free Virtual After School Program: 1st & 2nd Grades, Tuesday, Jan. 19, 5 p.m.: Hosted by the Word Up Community Bookstore, the online program is open to 1st and 2nd graders interested in literature, visual arts, movement and music. You can register here.

"My Soul Sings of Freedom": An Interactive Musical & Spoken Word Workshop with Gwendolyn Black, Saturday, Jan. 23, 2 p.m.: We invite you to join us for an afternoon of celebrating the Black experience through interactive music, dialogue, and instrument playing. You can register here.

Historic New York: Isham Park, Sunday, Jan. 24, 1 p.m.: Come join the Urban Park Rangers to explore the Inwood nature, geology, and history of Isham Park. View highlights such as Bruce's Garden, one of the "Great Trees of NYC" the Grandma Ginko, and the hidden mile marker found along the former Kingsbridge Road now known as Broadway.
