Daughter of Massachusetts fire official dies after getting pinned between pickup trucks in Maine

The daughter of a Massachusetts fire official died earlier this week when she was left pinned between two pickup trucks in Maine, officials said.

Officers responding to a report of a crash in the area of Island Avenue in Long Island around 8 p.m. Monday found 21-year-old Alyssa Fluet, of Methuen, pinned between a 2004 Ford Ranger and a 1998 Ford Ranger, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the 1998 Ranger began to roll from a parked position, and Fluet was attempting to stop the vehicle from moving and was pinned when it struck the other vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

Vehicle defects were a contributing factor in the incident, investigators noted.

Methuen Mayor Neil Perry, Methuen Fire Chief Tim Sheehy, and Methuen Police Chief Scott J. McNamara identified Alyssa as the daughter of Methuen Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Fluet.

Alyssa was a graduate of Methuen High School and a student at Salem State University.

“Alyssa had a love of the theater, performing, and spreading her cheerful and creative personality to friends and family. This outgoing daughter of Methuen brought joy to all who crossed her path,” city officials said in a joint news release. “We join loving relatives and countless friends in sending prayers, condolences, and support to Mike, Diane, and their daughter Abigail.”

An investigation remains ongoing in Maine.
