Dave Gettleman says there’s ‘timing involved’ in decision to cut DeAndre Baker

Giants GM Dave Gettleman said Wednesday the team was “still in conversations” about whether to release or retain corner DeAndre Baker.

When asked if keeping Baker on the roster set a poor precedent for tolerating his alleged armed robbery in May, Gettleman alluded to the team eventually parting ways with Baker.

“That’s fair. That’s a fair question,” Gettleman said. “All I can say to that is in life there’s timing that’s involved. In life there’s timing. And that’s how I’ll respond to that, OK?”

Gettleman could be referring to the fact that the Giants don’t have to start paying Baker’s salary on the Commissioner Exempt List until next week, so they still have a few days as they seek to recoup the guaranteed money from Baker’s rookie contract.
