Davenport food bank donations come all the way from Utah

Quad City families struggling to put food on their tables are getting help all the way from Utah.

The Utah Farm Bureau’s Miracle of Agriculture Foundation and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have donated more than 1,300 boxes of food to River Bend Food Bank in Davenport.

Some of the food was grown by church members.

“This is an amazing way to help people,” said Richard Whitaker, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. “You don’t just give them random items of food. You give them things that actually create meals that they can eat for four days. In fact, there’s even a can opener there so people don’t have to worry about how to open these cans.”

Food box shipments also went to food banks in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. It is projected that the donations will feed more than 10,000 Iowans.
