The Providence Journal is proud to announce that David Duke Jr. will be the special guest speaker at the 2022 All-State Rhode Island High School Sports Awards, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, at 7:30 p.m. on June 21 at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

More than 200 high school athletes from across Rhode Island will be honored. The show will also name players of the year for more than 20 sports and include several major awards, including overall Players of the Year, Teams of the Year, Coaches of the Year and a Courage Award.

“I’m honored to host the All-State Rhode Island High School Sports Awards this year," said Duke, who just completed his first NBA season. “These student-athletes never cease to amaze me with their hard work and dedication, and I'm proud to be a part of recognizing and honoring their accomplishments."

Duke appeared in 22 games with the Brooklyn Nets, scoring a season-high 18 points on Dec. 18vs. Orlando. He split his time this past season on a two-way contract with Brooklyn and Long Island of the G-League. A 6-foot-6 point guard, he came to the NBA from Providence College and also played at Classical High School.

"David Duke's basketball journey took him from the Rhode Island Interscholastic League to the Big East and now to the NBA. He's truly an inspiration to Rhode Island's student-athletes and we're honored to have him as our featured speaker at this year's awards event," said Journal sports editor Bill Corey.
