How should Matthews handle residential, commercial and industrial development? Should the town change any ordinances or rules to alter how development occurs? If so, what?

Matthews has experienced a lot of growth over the years but the road network has been lagging. When new development occurs, it puts a strain on this infrastructure. It is important to ensure that new development is compatible with existing infrastructure and that there is enough capacity to support it.The public should have a strong voice in how Matthews is developed. Developers have been drawn here due to a high quality of life and home town feel. It is important to get the public’s input on new projects so that the community can grow in a way that reflects the values and priorities of its residents.

What’s the best feature of the town of Matthews and what’s the most important thing it needs to improve?

The citizens of Matthews hold the small town feel close to their hearts. The quaint charm of this community must be protected. Community engagement needs to improve. This responsibility isn’t simply on the town to improve. Citizens need to engage their elected representatives to express their views on town business. As a commissioner, I would like to engage town residents where they are for community events in addition to official proceedings at town hall.

An internal investigation found that Matthews Police misrepresented how successful they were at clearing crimes. What can you do, if anything, as a member of the town board to ensure police are accurately reporting internally and to the public what crime looks like in Matthews?

Town business, including police activity, should be as transparent as possible. Making police reports available online should be considered.

What sets you apart from other candidates on the ballot and makes you the best choice?

I have been involved in various facets of life in Matthews as a leader/contributor for several years. My training and experience as an engineer has prepared me very well to identify issues, drill down into root causes, and drive results. It is time to converge the servant and methodical sides to be the leader that puts the citizens’ voice at the center of town decisions.
