David Harrison will speak about memoir at two Springfield events this week

Renowned children's author David Harrison will speak and sign copies of his memoir "This Life: An Autobiography," at two back-to-back events this week in Springfield.

The book was published in December by the Ozarks Studies Institute, an initiative of the Missouri State University Libraries.

The Springfield native and prolific author writes about growing up in the Ozarks as well as a brief stint in Arizona, and how his professional and personal life unfolded. His stories provide insight into life in southwest Missouri and the path he took to pursue his passions for science and writing.

The Springfield-Greene County Library will host Harrison for an author talk and signing at 7 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of The Library Center, located at 4653 S. Campbell Avenue in Springfield.

Pagination Bookshop will also host Harrison for a book reading and signing at 6 p.m. Friday. The bookshop is located at 1150 E. Walnut St. in Springfield.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Harrison has published more than 100 books for children and teachers.

His picture books, poems and guided readers have sold more than 10 million copies and been translated into a dozen languages. His stack of book medals started with the Christopher Award in 1972. The most recent was the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award in 2020.
