David Mowery: Section of turnpike in Berks and Chester counties to be closed Sunday morning

May 6—The Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in both directions Sunday from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. between the Morgantown Interchange, Exit 298, in Berks County and the Downingtown Interchange, Exit 312, in Chester County.

The closure is needed so crews can remove overhead bridge beams. The bridge, which carries Bulltown Road over I-76, is at milepost 302.81 in Chester County, officials said.

During the closure, the ramps at The Peter J. Camiel Service Plaza at westbound milepost 304.8 also will be closed to all traffic. Motorists will not be able to exit the service plaza during this time. Visitors who do not leave the service plaza before the closure will have to remain in the service plaza until the work is completed and the ramps are reopened.

State police and turnpike personnel will be positioned in the area to help drivers. Changeable message signs also will provide information on closures and detours.

The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.

The following is the recommended detour for eastbound motorists:

Take Route 10 south (1 mile), to Route 23 east (12.5 miles), to Route 100 south (9 miles) and reenter the turnpike at the Downingtown Interchange, Exit 312.

The following is the recommended detour for westbound motorists:

Take Route 100 north (9 miles), to Route 23 west (12.5 miles), to Route 10 north (1 mile) and reenter the turnpike at the Morgantown Interchange, Exit 298.
