David Reed held without bail in cold-case murder of his half-sister

David Reed, the 53-year-old former Acushnet and New Bedford resident — accused of the brutal 2001 bludgeoning death of his half-sister Rose Marie Moniz in her New Bedford home — was ordered held without bail Friday morning at his arraignment in Fall River Superior Court. Reed, who was 33 when he allegedly used a conch shell, cast-iron kettle and fireplace poker to kill his then 41-year-old half-sibling, will stand trial for murder and armed robbery.

The Michelle Carter manslaughter conviction in the texting suicide death of Mattapoisett resident Conrad Roy III will be told in another production. This time, on Hulu with Elle Fanning portraying Carter in "The Girl from Plainville." According to a press release from Hulu, "The Girl from Plainville," due to be released this spring, follows Carter's relationship with Roy, his death by suicide in 2014 and the criminal case against Carter that resulted in her 2017 manslaughter conviction.

Sports

The Somerset Berkley boys basketball team notched another come-from-behind win on Friday. The Raiders erased a 13-point deficit and defeated league opponent Bourne at home, 70-66, in a South Coast Conference matchup at Somerset Berkley Regional high school.
