MEMPHIS – With a logjam on the wing and a trio of disappointing former number one picks, failing to live up to the billing, the Memphis Grizzlies making another move in the final few hours before Thursday’s NBA Trade deadline.

It’s just a bit of a surprise the player they decided to ship out.

The Grizzlies part of a three team deal with the Suns and Brooklyn Nets that sends David Roddy to Phoenix for a swap of draft picks and two players, former Grizzly Yuta Watanabe and big man Chimezie Metu.

The 6’10” Metu is on an expiring contract.

That means Ziaire Williams and Jake Laravia both remain on the Grizzlies roster…post deadline.

Roddy was a first round pick back in the 2022 draft and has seen an uptick in minutes, points and rebounds, really every statistical category this year, due to all the injuries.

All in all, the Grizz made three trades.

Roddy, Steven Adams and Xavier Tillman out.

Watanabe, Metu, Lamar Stevens and 5 second round picks and that swap, coming in.

“It’s the reality of the business. Everyone understands that. But it definitely takes a toll on relationships and families,” Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said.  “Obviously, we’re making decisions in the best interests of the organization. I think everyone understands that. But it’s a tough time of the year.”
