David Tennant has shown solidarity with striking actors after refusing to answer a Doctor Who question at a panel.

At New York Comic-Con, a fan asked Tennant about upcoming episodes of Doctor Who, but the actor made a motion with his hands to signal that he was keeping his lips sealed, as Hollywood actors aren't currently allowed to promote current or former projects.

Members of Hollywood's acting union, SAG-AFTRA, have been striking since July 14. Actors have been regularly taking to social media to show themselves picketing.

While the writers' strike has officially ended, the actor's strike continues after industry CEOs walked away from negotiations this week.

In a statement released on Instagram, SAG-AFTRA revealed to its members: "It is with profound disappointment that we report the industry CEOs have walked away from the bargaining table after refusing to counter our latest offer.

"We have negotiated with them in good faith, despite the fact that last week they presented an offer that was, shockingly, worth less than they proposed before the strike began.

"One day longer. One day stronger. As long as it takes."

Tennant is set to reprise his role as The Doctor alongside Catherine Tate, who returns as companion Donna Noble for three special episodes to mark the show's 60th anniversary.

The upcoming specials also star How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris, Harry Potter actress Miriam Margolyes and Heartstopper's Yasmin Finney.

The new version of the show's iconic theme tune was recently unveiled ahead of its return later this year, which will see Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa make his highly anticipated debut as the Time Lord.

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on Max.
