David Walliams reveals new Alton Towers ride will be inspired by his books
David Walliams’s children’s books have proved so popular over the years that several of them have been adapted at animated TV movies and stage show musicals. Now, the comedian has announced that his well-loved literary works have provided inspiration for a new theme park ride.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge took to Twitter on Thursday 17 October to reveal that he’s been working with Alton Towers on an attraction that will open in springtime 2020.
Later, the amusement park confirmed via prepared statement that construction on the ride began earlier this year and that “nearly 100 specialists, from Alton Towers’ creative team to external experts in the latest theme park technology, are working flat-out” to make its ready for the grand unveiling in less than six months time.

“It’s a huge thrill for some of my favourite characters to be getting their own attractions at Alton Towers.” said the former Little Britain star. “I can’t wait to experience them for myself, and from all the work that has gone in I think people are going to love it. All will be revealed next year.”

Since his first novel, The Boy in the Dress, was published in 2008, Walliams has found huge success as a children’s author. Over the years, his books - which are illustrated by Roald Dahl’s former favourite Quentin Blake - have been translated into 53 different language and have sold more than thirty three million copies worldwide.

Other titles of his include Fing, Mr. Stink, Ratburger, The World’s Worst Children, The Slightly Annoying Elephant and Gangsta Granny.
While details of the attraction remain under wraps, those involved did announce that the ride will be situated near the existing Cloud Cuckoo Land area of the Staffordshire-based resort.
