Dax Shepard Is a ‘Terrible’ Homeschool Teacher: ‘I Don’t Think I’m Worse at Anything in My Life’

Dax Shepard is a proud dad, a successful actor, a podcast host and a brand partner for Planet Oat. But when it comes to homeschooling his oldest daughter—Lincoln (7)—the Parenthood alum, 45, could use some serious practice.

PureWow recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Shepard, who got candid about homeschooling during the coronavirus pandemic. The actor admitted that he wasn’t prepared for what it entailed, so he allowed his wife, Kristen Bell, to take the lead.

“I intended for it to be 50/50, and I was terrible at it. I don’t think I’m worse at anything in my life. It was grueling. My daughter hated it. I hated it,” Shepard told PureWow. “Kristen was just far better at it, so it ended up falling way more on her plate than mine.”

However, that doesn’t mean it was all fun and games. “[Lincoln] doesn’t seem very receptive to mom and dad telling her what to do,” he added.

At one point, Shepard called in a reinforcement (read: his sister, Carly Hatter), since Lincoln tends to push the boundaries with her parents.

“Whenever I pick my daughter up at school or drop her off, I’m shocked by how respectful she is to the teacher. You know, she seems to do everything the teacher asks,” he explained. “So occasionally, my sister would conduct Zoom school. I’m like, ‘All right, you’re going to do everything Carly says, since you won’t do any of the things we say.’”

Hang in there, Dax (and Lincoln).
