A day after being cut by the Green Bay Packers Sammy Watkins gets a return call from Baltimore

A day after being released by the Green Bay Packers, Sammy Watkins already has a new home. And it’s one he’s already familiar with.

The Baltimore Ravens, the team for which he played last season, claimed Watkins off waivers Tuesday.

The South Fort Myers High graduate played in 13 games for Baltimore, registering 27 catches on 49 targets for 394 yards and a touchdown over 13 games last season.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reported that Ravens wide receiver that Devin Duvernay may have suffered a serious foot injury during Tuesday’s practice, giving Baltimore a need at the position.

Watkins, who signed a one-year deal to join the Packers, caught 13 passes for 206 yards and zero touchdowns over nine games in 2022. A hamstring injury in Week 2 forced the 29-year-old to miss four games on injured reserve.

He played 11 total snaps over the last two games and hadn’t caught a pass since Week 10 prior to his release on Monday.

In his first eight NFL seasons with the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, and Ravens, Watkins had 348 catches for 5,059 yards (14.5 average) and 34 touchdowns,

Plagued by injuries, he hasn’t eclipsed 40 catches over 500 receiving yards since the 2019 season. He’s missed at least two games in seven of his nine NFL seasons and missed 17 games with thigh, calf, hamstring, and foot injuries over the previous four years.
