On This Day in History: Steve Scalise shot during Congressional baseball game

Two years ago today, Minority Whip Steve Scalise was critically injured during a Congressional Baseball Game practice. On Friday, Scalise tweeted a thank you to the heroes who helped save him and his colleague's lives. "Heroes saved my life and the lives of many others at that Congressional Baseball Game practice two years ago. I'll be forever grateful for their courageous action and the outpouring of love and support from friends and strangers all across the country." Ahead of the anniversary of the shooting during the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game practice, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise was reunited with the woman who saved his life. Scalise invited Special Agent Crystal Griner back to the field at Wednesday morning’s Congressional Baseball Game practice. Advertisement Griner was instrumental in stopping the shooter two years ago, even after being shot herself. Scalise, who was shot in the hip, was in critical condition after surgery. He has undergone years of recovery and multiple surgeries. Also taken to hospitals with gunshot wounds were a U.S. Capitol police officer, a congressional staffer and a lobbyist. Scalise tweeted a video of their reunion, captioning the video with his thanks and calling Griner a true hero. "I think about the heroes when I think about June 14, 2017. This morning, I was honored to welcome one of those heroes—Special Agent Crystal Griner—back to the field at our #CongressionalBaseballGame practice. We'll forever be grateful for the courageous action of Capitol Police."
