A Day of Remembrance: Reflecting on the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII

Feb. 19, 2023 marks 81 years since an executive order was signed by President Franklin Roosevelt which would be the catalyst for the incarceration of thousands of Japanese Americans. Executive order 9066 allowed for people of Japanese ancestry to be incarcerated in ‘relocation centers’ later known as internment camps. The devastating movement forced some 120,000 Americans to leave their homes and businesses and be placed into remote barracks. Sacramento area Walerga Park was the site of one of those camps for the thousands of Japanese Americans who lived in Sacramento.
