It's Daylight Savings this weekend. When does the time officially change in New Mexico?

LAS CRUCES - Daylight saving time ends Sunday, Nov. 7, so be sure to set your clocks to fall back and enjoy an extra hour of rest.

Daylight saving officially started in March and ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7. This means the sun will set earlier in the day through Dec. 21 — the winter solstice and the day of the year with the shortest amount of sunlight.

New Mexico will revert to standard time and once again run along the same time as Arizona — one state that notably does not observe daylight saving time.

The time change also marks the time of year when local fire departments encourage residents to install new batteries in their smoke alarms. Most alarms take a single 9-volt battery.

In a news release, the Las Cruces Fire Department suggest homeowners test their smoke alarms by pressing and holding the "test" button to ensure it is working properly. If the alarm beeps or rings loudly, LCFD says it is in working order.

Avoid testing the alarm with a candle or matches lit underneath — this may lead it to not work properly in the event of a real fire.
