Usage outpaced collections of Type O blood during the holiday weekend, the CBC said. The Dayton CBC operated on special hours Sunday, July 3, but there were no collections Monday, July 4.

The CBC said they must average 300 donors per day to meet area hospital demands and that the July 4 holiday is a critical time to give blood due to fewer blood drivers scheduled and with the donors’ schedule altered by vacations and travel, the release said.

CBC is encouraging donations between Tuesday, July 5, through Saturday, July 9, at the Dayton CBC Donation center by offering a $10 Speedway gas card, the release said.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, required to provide a photo ID with their full name and must weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, the CBC said.

The Dayton CBC will be host a Ritter’s Frozen custard bar for donors on Friday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, according to the release.
