Webb was accused of setting up a meeting with Mann and then killing him.
Webb told police Mann “started saying Webb was gay a couple years ago and that some people began to believe it,” according to a charging affidavit. Webb then admitted to creating a fake Instagram account to “get back” at Mann, the affidavit stated.
Webb arranged a meeting with Mann, messaging each other more than 170 times between 11:30 p.m. June 22 and 1:51 a.m. June 23, according to the charging affidavit.
At 1:51 a.m., as the two neared each other in Daytona Beach, Webb asked Mann to “come to side walk.”
Mann's last message stated: “That’s you hiding.”
Jakari Webb changed his story
Mann’s body was discovered shortly before 2 a.m. just east of Oak Tree Circle and Forest Glen Boulevard on a sidewalk, soon after officers on patrol heard gunshots. Police found about six empty shell casings near the body, the affidavit stated.
Webb changed his story several times, and at first claimed he had shot Mann in self-defense; then he said it was an accident, according to the charging affidavit.
Webb has a hearing scheduled before Circuit Judge James Clayton on Aug. 9 at the Volusia County Courthouse in DeLand. He has entered a plea of not guilty.
Sammy McKnight Jr. accused of killing during a carjacking
McKnight, 31, was indicted in the killing of James Shirley, 36, on June 17. McKnight, whose residence was listed as Palm Bay, is accused of killing Shirley during a carjacking in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn, 308 Sunrise Blvd. in DeBary, according to a charging affidavit.
The fatally wounded Shirley then ran to the IHOP at 320 Dirksen Drive, where he collapsed in the entryway, the affidavit stated.
Shirley had been living out of his car parked at the Hampton Inn. McKnight shot and killed him and then took his car, according to the charging affidavit.
McKnight was also charged with carjacking with a firearm and burglary while armed with a firearm.
McKnight has an arraignment set on Aug. 9 before Circuit Judge Leah Case at the S. James Foxman Justice Center in Daytona Beach.
