Daytona Beach is already displaying street banners in the city's center to honor King, a Baptist minister and activist who was one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968.

The "Remembering King" initiative, which began in 2021, features King's most powerful and impactful quotes on the banners.

The banners are on display throughout January along International Speedway Boulevard between Nova Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The banners include the following things King said:

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

"The time is always right to do what is right."

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that."

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort andconvenience, but where he stands at times of challenge."
