Daytona police investigate off-campus shooting of 2 Bethune-Cookman students

Daytona Beach police are working to identify the person who shot two Bethune-Cookman University students Saturday morning near the Daytona Beach campus, according to Daytona Beach police spokeswoman Carrie McCallister.

One person is in critical condition and the other is in stable condition, McCallister said. Their names haven't been released, and information about which hospital they were transported to wasn't immediately available. Police have not identified the shooter.

The shooting happened near Joe Harris Park, which is close to the campus, and police responded around 2 a.m., according to McCallister.

"The shooter and victims were in contact prior to the incident at a separate location, which led to the shooting (near) Joe Harris Park, but the relationship between the parties is still unknown," McCallister wrote in a text message to The News-Journal.

Authorities believe it was an isolated incident, according to McCallister.
