Good morning, Chicago.

The woman had been testifying for more than four hours Thursday about her clandestine sexual relationship with R&B superstar R. Kelly as an impressionable young teenager when she was asked about one of the central mysteries in the case.

Why, after two decades of silence, did she finally decide to come forward and speak out?

“I became exhausted with living with his lies,” she said.

The response punctuated a stunning day at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse, where the now-disgraced singer and two former associates stand accused of conspiring to cover up years of Kelly’s sexual misconduct.

Chicago boat tragedies spark safety discussion about Lake Michigan’s ‘Playpen’

Authorities said Thursday that no new safety regulations were needed for Lake Michigan’s “Playpen.” Instead, officials stressed personal responsibility, asking boaters, swimmers and other water recreationists to be cautious and stay safe while enjoying the lake.

The announcement came as police continued to search for a man who reportedly fell off a boat Wednesday night at the party-friendly boating hot spot south of Oak Street Beach. The accident occurred just days after a woman lost her legs when she was sucked under a reversing boat’s propeller in the same area.

Labor board officials allege Starbucks violated labor law during Chicago union push

Starbucks violated labor law by threatening and interrogating Chicago baristas at stores where workers were attempting to unionize, local labor officials allege.

The regional director of the National Labor Relations Board in Chicago says that Starbucks violated labor law by threatening employees with the loss of benefits and wage increases for organizing; interrogating workers about the union; forbidding workers from wearing pro-union face masks and T-shirts; and telling workers that organizing was futile, according to a complaint filed Tuesday with the agency.

The complaint involves the coffee giant’s actions at two of its Chicago stores: one in Edgewater, which was one of the first in Chicago to unionize, and one in Palmer Square, where employees voted against forming a union.

‘House of Dragon’ review: Power plays, violence, dragons and incest. Yep, sounds like a ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel

HBO is back at the “Game of Thrones” well with “House of the Dragon,” a prequel series about House Targaryen nearly 200 years before the birth of Daenerys. As with its TV predecessor, “House of the Dragon” revolves around power plays, flying dragons, gore and violence, questions of succession, writhing humanity, sexism and, yes, some incest thrown in for good measure, writes Nina Metz.

The Targaryen name has considerable meaning to anyone previously exposed to these stories — and that’s clearly the intended audience here — but does the show work if you’re coming in cold?
