DC Metro secures Twitter account after hacker tweets 'obscene posts'

The Twitter account for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) was apparently hacked Monday morning, with obscene posts being made on the agency's Twitter page before it was secured.

In a series of tweets beginning at around 3 a.m., the @wmata Twitter page began posting strange comments and changing the page's name to "Blueface Da Bus."

One of the tweets that the hacker made read, "ok serious question. are we a good bus station or are we ass."

"We aware that Metro's Twitter accounts @WMATA @MetrorailInfo were hacked and obscene posts were made that do not represent Metro's organization or culture," WMATA said in a statement to WJLA. "The posts will be removed, and our account will be secured. We are working to understand who may be responsible for this breach."

The account was secured at around 6 a.m., according to WJLA, and the offending tweets were deleted.

The Metrorail Info Twitter account was also apparently hacked shortly after it warned users not to follow the @wmata account. The hacker appeared to try to pass themselves off as a scorned social media manager, tweeting, "we ain't hacked I just hate being a social media manager for a F---ING BUS TWITTER."

As of Monday afternoon, the Metrorail Info account also appears to have been secured.
