DC police identify, charge man shot by officer during chase

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said it was investigating after an officer shot a man during a chase in Northeast D.C. Monday.

Investigators from the Violent Crime Suppression Division’s Robbery Suppression Unit were in the 2100 block of Bladensburg Road around 9 p.m. when they saw an argument break out.

The investigators got out of their cruiser to try and stop a man who was holding a gun. That man — later identified as 31-year-old Deion Hinnant of Northeast — started running away. MPD said the investigators chased after him and told the man to show his hands, but he did not. He “appeared to turn towards them,” prompting an investigator to shoot at him multiple times.

DC Fire and EMS took the Hinnant, who had serious injuries, to the hospital.
