DC protest locations cause traffic backups in District, Virginia; 12 arrested

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A series of protests through out the District Thursday created traffic issue for commuters and other drivers in the city and for those trying to get into D.C. from the Virginia side of the Potomac River.

The demonstrations were by people who were showing their support for Palestine, calling for a cease-fire between Hamas and Israel.

The locations were throughout D.C. and included one at 23rd Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW near the U.S. State Department. United States Park Police (USPP) said it arrested four people at that location. The Metropolitan Police Department said it arrested eight people.

Besides the traffic issues found in the city Thursday morning, drivers found backup after backup on streets and roadways in Virginia, particularly in Arlington County where cars, trucks, and SUVs were at standstills and crawls near the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery.

Streets in feeding into the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which connects Rosslyn to Georgetown also were congested.
