DCP Downtown Discoveries Scavenger Hunt/Passport Program underway

Jul. 12—WILKES — BARRE — The Diamond City Partnership Monday announced that its 2nd annual Downtown Discoveries Scavenger Hunt and Passport Program is underway.

The event began June 25, and ends July 31.

The event encourages children and their families to visit Downtown businesses and other city attractions, like the Sordoni Art Gallery, Marquis Art & Frame, the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department and Police Station, the YMCA and others to receive free prizes.

Families can mark their passports by participating in Downtown activities, including attending the Farmer's Market, taking a yoga class on the River Common, seeing a movie at Movies 14, attending a "Y" Walk Wednesday, and borrowing a book at the Osterhout Free Library.

The scavenger hunt also includes stops at the new interactive kid's sculpture at Midtown Village, the hidden petroglyphs, fitness corner, and a storybook riddle — all found on Public Square.

"It has been great to see children and their families walking around downtown with their passports this summer," said Shelby Monk, DCP's marketing and events coordinator.

Downtown Discoveries Passports are being distributed at the Osterhout Library, the YMCA, and the Luzerne County Visitors Bureau. Children can bring completed passports to the Osterhout Library by July 31, to be entered into a contest to win prizes.

The initiative is part of DCP's Downtown Rebound initiative to bring people, life, and vitality back to Downtown Wilkes-Barre.
