DD clients share their talents at art show
BYESVILLE − The Guernsey County Board of Developmental Disabilities (GCBDD) recently held an art show at the Byesville Village Park.
Teaming up with the village, the board brought artwork by many of the individuals they service. Paintings and photography pieces graced giant displays under the large pavilion.
Several pieces of artwork were available for purchase, with any proceeds going directly to the artists. Prices ranged from $1 to $20, with some artwork being labeled as make an offer.
Braven, one of the artists, painted a picture entitled "Normal Day of the Farm." He said he currently does not have a farm but may have one when he's older.
The board has done two previous art show. The first one at the City Park in 2020, and another in front of the Guernsey County Courthouse in 2021. "We thought teaming up with the farmers market might get some additional folks out," says Jenna Conaway with the GCBDD.
The ages of artists varied from children under the age of 10 to adults in their 50s. All of the artwork will also be displayed at the GCBDD tent at the upcoming Salt Fork Arts and Craft Festival in August.
"We want folks to know that folks with developmental disabilities have the same abilities and capabilities as anyone else in the community. They can be artists, they can work in the community, they can really do everything. We want them to be part of the community and feel involved," Conaway said.
