Dead to Me season 2 spoilers follow.

Since Dead to Me's second season landed on Netflix a week ago, fans have been flocking to social media to demand a third instalment. Largely because they're desperate to see the repercussions of the huge cliffhanger season 2 wrapped things up on.

In the last few seconds of the finale, Jen (Christina Applegate) and Judy (Linda Cardellini) seemed like they'd got some semblance of a life back after weeks worrying about the former being caught out for murdering the latter's ex-fiancé Steve (James Marsden) and burying him in the woods.

Detective Perez decided to turn a blind eye to Jen's confession in favour of taking down her corrupt boss. Meanwhile, Judy finally got her old paintings back and was delighted to discover that they still contained thousands of dollars from Steve's money-laundering.

But their bliss was cut short when they were hit by Steve's twin Ben on the way home from buying Jen's son a car.

Now, James Marsden has weighed in on whether or not he thinks the boozed-up brother – who had fallen for Jen throughout the season and received some mysterious news a couple of scenes earlier – he plays ploughed into them on purpose.

"I don't think he saw them in the car. I don't know that he'd remember them. He was also just blackout drunk, I think. I think the reminder is going to be the blood coming from his nose," he told Variety.

He also opened up about how keen he was to showcase how different Ben is to the "very charming, egocentric" Steve because of his polar-opposite life experiences.

"He's been the Invisible Man his whole life," he explained. "He's always been living in Steve's shadow.

"Because of that, I think what springs from that is a real empathy and a really kind heart.

"Obviously with twins, they really start out the same way — there are certain things that are innate in you when you come out into the world and you're coded in some ways, but then you're also completely formed and shaped by how people treat you," Marsden concluded.

"We just wanted to do something different other than just parting my hair on the other side and throwing [him] in some some Dockers and a Patagonia vest."

Dead to Me is currently available to stream on Netflix.
