Deadline to apply for fuel assistance May 13

The deadline to apply for fuel assistance is rapidly approaching, the last day being Friday, May 13, Lisa Spencer, the CEO of the South Shore Community Action Council said in a press release.

Information to re-apply to the program is available via the Fuel Assistance portal at www.sscac.org.

Residents who didn’t receive applications in the mail and believe they may qualify are encouraged to apply using the online portal, or call 508-746-6707, or toll free 877-FUELAID, to make an appointment with an intake worker (from 8:30 am to 4 pm).

After applying, applicants must send supplemental documents, either by mail to 71 Obery St., Plymouth MA 02360 Attn Fuel Assistance; by fax to 508-746-5140, or online at liheapgeneral@sscac.org.

Documents include proof of income for the past 30 days for each member of the household over the age of 18, picture ID, proof of citizenship, and proof of street address.

Households that have used the same primary heat source for at least one year should submit copies of their heating bills for the past 12 months.

Applicants who require emergency assistance must submit income and other information to the office by fax or email the same day that they apply, if they haven’t done so already.

Income limits are as follows:

1 — $40,951

2 — $53,551

3 — $66,151

4 — $78,751

5 — $91,351

Benefit levels range from $915—$2,100 for non-subsidized residents and $640—$1,605 for subsidized residents. Those eligible for fuel assistance are also eligible for 12 months of electric and natural gas discounts and may be eligible for free weatherization and heating-system repair.

Fuel deliveries ended April 30.
