Act now before Ohio dog license fees double

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Pet owners in Ohio are running out of time to get their furry friend a 2024 dog license.

The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter is reminding Ohioans that the deadline to buy a dog license is Jan. 31. Fees double starting Feb. 1.

According to the Ohio Revised Code, all dogs three months and older must have an up-to-date license. Owners in violation face penalty fees.

In Cuyahoga County, a one-year tags are $20, three-year tags are $60 and lifetime tags are $200.

County residents can buy them at local Discount Drug Mart or Pet Supply Plus locations, the county animal shelter or online.

The Summit County fiscal office also sent out a reminder, saying residents can find locations to purchase a dog license here.

Tag prices could vary by county.

Lost dogs wearing a license have a better chance of being reunited with their owners, the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter said in a media release.

The shelter also said licensed dogs can stay at shelters longer than unlicensed strays.
