October 11 is the deadline to register to vote in Kentucky. Here's what to know

Kentuckians wanting to vote in the Nov. 8 general election have an important deadline to meet this month, as eligible voters must be registered by Oct. 11.

Those wanting to register or check to see if they are already registered can go to govoteky.com to do so, clicking on New/Update Registration" or "Review your Registration."

When is the voter registration deadline in Kentucky for the 2022 elections?

The online registration must be completed by 4 p.m. Oct. 11.

If your registration application is accepted, your local county clerk will send confirmation by mail of your registration and notify you of your polling location.

How to register to vote in person in Kentucky

Kentuckians can register to vote in person by filling out a voter registration card at their county clerk's office, or downloading and printing out a card and mailing a completed one to their county clerk's office or the State Board of Elections at 140 Walnut St., Frankfort, KY 40601.

Who can register to vote in Kentucky?

Those eligible to vote in Kentucky must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Be a current resident of Kentucky.

  • Be at least 18 years of age on or before Nov 8.

  • Not be a convicted felon, or if they have been convicted of a felony, had their right to vote restored following an expungement, executive pardon or executive order.

  • Have not been judged "incompetent" in a Kentucky court of law.

  • Not claim the right to vote anywhere outside Kentucky.

When do I vote in Kentucky for the 2022 midterm elections?

All eligible voters may cast their ballot in person at their polling place on Nov. 8 before polls close at 6 p.m., or vote early in person on Thursday, Friday and Saturday before the election, Nov. 3-5.

Can I get an absentee ballot in Kentucky?

Those unable to vote on these days due to health, work or temporary residence excuses, or because of their age, disability or illness, may also request an absentee ballot through the mail at govoteky.com. Such individuals may also cast an excused in-person absentee ballot at their local clerk's office during normal business hours in the six business days preceding Nov. 3.
