Deadlines to register to vote, request absentee ballot in City Council election approaching

Jan. 10—The deadline to register to vote in the Feb. 13 City Council election occurs next week.

Prospective voters must be registered by Jan. 19., and those who wish to vote absentee must request their absentee ballot by Jan. 29. Those unsure of their voter registration status can check online through the OK Voter Portal (okvoterportal.okelections.us).

Residents have several options in how they wish to register to vote. They can go to the Cleveland County Election Board office, located at 641 E. Robinson St., to fill out an application in person, or visit the State Election Board website to print off an application, which must then be mailed or hand-delivered to the Cleveland County Election Board.

To fill out an application through the State Election Board website, go to oklahoma.gov/elections/voter-registration. For mailed-in applications, the Jan. 19 deadline applies to when the application is postmarked, not to when the applicant receives their voter ID card.

To request a standard absentee ballot, residents can apply online through the OK Voter Portal, or print out an application from the State Election Board website to mail to the Cleveland County Election Board. Residents can also visit the Cleveland County Election Board to get an application, or call the board at 405-366-0210 to have an application mailed to them.

After voters receive their absentee ballots, the State Election Board website has instructions on how to return them at oklahoma.gov/elections/voters/absentee-voting.

The Feb. 13 election will determine the next City Councilmembers for Norman's even-numbered wards. To see which ward you live in, check the map at www.normanok.gov/your-government/city-council.

Other upcoming local elections include a special election on March 5 to grant OG&E a 25-year franchise agreement with the City, and a school board election on April 2 to determine the next board representative of Norman Public Schools District 4.
