The reason for the ‘deadlock’ seen on the frontlines is due to delays in receiving promised Western military aid, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksyy told Italian channel Rai 1 on Feb. 4.

"There is a deadlock in the ongoing war on the ground, that's a fact,” said Zelenskyy. “There have been delays in equipment, and delays mean mistakes. We are fighting against terrorists who have one of the largest armies in the world, we lack ammunition, and we need more modern weapons.”

Zelenskyy spoke of Ukraine's successes in the Black Sea, where Ukraine destroyed a number of Russian ships and established an export corridor for itself.

"The maritime operation achieved positive results. Russia has lost many ships and that allowed Ukraine to establish a vital grain export corridor in the Black Sea,” he said. “This effort has had positive effects, especially to our economy.”

Ukraine managed to defend its sovereignty and halt Russia's advance, despite difficulties on the frontlines and the occupation of a significant part of the country, Zelenskyy said.

"Two years later, it is important that we were able to defend our state, although about 26% of the country's territory remains under occupation,” he said. “We have seen that the Russian army cannot make significant advances. We stopped them.”
