21-year-old woman killed when SUV ran over her on I-95 in Pompano Beach, troopers say

A 21-year-old woman was killed early Monday morning when a man in an SUV ran over her on Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach, shutting down all northbound lanes for several hours, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

After the Cape Coral woman exited her 2019 blue Toyota Corolla sedan following a previous crash south of Copans Road, a 31-year-old Boca Raton man driving a 2021 gray Hyundai Palisade SUV smashed into her disabled car in the express lanes around 1 a.m., troopers said in a statement.

When the Hyundai SUV crashed into the Toyota, the sedan hit the woman, throwing her north, troopers said. After the woman landed in one of the express lanes, the SUV rotated clockwise and ran over her.

The woman died on the highway.

The northbound lanes of I-95 were reopened before 8:30 a.m., over seven hours after the deadly crash, but the express lanes remained closed until after 9 a.m. Before the lanes reopened, traffic was backed up beyond Prospect Road.
