Wanted man shot and killed by deputy in Alexander County: Sheriff

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A wanted man is dead following an officer-involved shooting from over the weekend, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Deputies were attempting to serve warrants on a man at a home located along Dusty Road in Taylorsville at 9:58 p.m. Sunday, May 12. They were met by the suspect, who was wanted on five warrants, in the front yard.

The sheriff’s office reports that the wanted man “ignored verbal commands and attempted to flee.” It is unknown at this time what the warrants were issued for.

When deputies caught up to the man a fight ensued and one deputy shot and killed the suspect, who is not being identified by authorities at this time.

The deputy who fired their weapon has been placed on paid administrative leave per protocol pending an external NC SBI investigation.
