Deadpool Won’t Get A Director’s Cut
Rumours of a ‘Deadpool’ director’s cut have been refuted by Tim Miller.
Claims had been made, notably from actor TJ Miller, that an even more extreme version of the 15-rated Marvel comic book adaptation would be made available once the film hits DVD.
However, Miller - the FX artist turned director, who made his debut on the long-awaited super (anti-) hero movie - says he’s happy with the cut that is now in cinemas, although the edited footage will still be seen in the DVD extras.
Miller told Collider, “I don’t wanna be all Joss Whedon on you, but no there’s not [a director’s cut]… There are some deleted scenes that have some extra stuff, but I’m pretty happy with this cut. I like it.”
Miller says a lot of the film’s more violent and/or offensive content was trimmed at the behest of producer Simon Kinberg (one of the key players in 20th Century Fox’s Marvel universe movies).
“I had a little more workshop fight in there that I liked—that’s the beat that we were talking about,
“[Simon’s] like, ‘Tim it’s violent enough, please’ and I’m like, ‘Oh no but man when he stomps on his face it’s awesome,’ and Simon’s like, ‘No we’ve got enough.’ (laughs)”
Something for fans to look forward to once ‘Deadpool’ reaches DVD, then - but right now all eyes are on its performance at the box office, where the non-family friendly movie is outstripping expectations, looking likely to reach $130 million from its opening weekend alone.
