Dean Black, chairman of the Republican Party of Duval County, won his party's primary for the newly drawn House District 15 against opponent Emily Nunez on Tuesday.

The district, which sprawls across all of Nassau County and much of northern and western Duval County, will be up for grabs on November’s ballot when write-in candidate Jerry Steckloff appears.

No Democrats filed to run for this seat.

Black, 56, is an Air Force veteran and businessman who raises cattle on a ranch at the Duval-Nassau line. He is an eighth-generation Floridian and said his family has been in the area since the early 1800s before it was known as Jacksonville, according to previous reporting from the Times-Union.

Black’s platform includes goals to invest in parks and green spaces, and he said the state needs to take measures toward more affordable housing.

Black also is a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump and his repeated claims that the 2020 election was "rigged" against him and President Joe Biden is not the legitimate president.
