Hollywood actor Dean Cain, who played Superman in the hit TV show, "Lois and Clark," is coming to town Friday to launch the nonprofit Ohio Helping Hands' program that benefits foster families.

At 6 p.m., Cain will hand out the first set of "Foster Family Fun Packs" to Richland County Children Services prior to the film premiere of, "Joey & Rex Save the Church," at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Crossroads Church, 1188 Park Avenue West. The film was made in Mansfield last November.

The nonprofit organization is set to donate 200 “Foster Family Fun Packs” this year throughout Ohio.

Luggage bags filled with games, crafts and more

Each pack contains a sturdy luggage bag for children to store and transport their personal items. These packs are filled with games, crafts, and other creative activities to help children break the ice, create a bond, and have some fun in their new foster home.

“Children are often removed from their homes, with just some of their belongings stuffed into a trash bag," said Stacey Stratton, executive director of Ohio Helping Hands. "Knowing these children are also feeling scared, confused and alone, we wanted to create a nonprofit to help support them emotionally as they transition into their new foster home.

Ohio Helping Hands was created after JCFilms Studios filmed the recently released movie "CHOSEN." The faith and family film stars two Christian movie icons, Dean Cain and Kevin Sorbo. "CHOSEN" was produced in Mansfield and is part of several faith and family films being produced in Ohio by Cain.

Film shows the beauty, challenges of adoption and foster parenting

"CHOSEN" not only brings attention to the beauty and challenges of adoption and foster parenting, but shows just how communities and people of faith can come together to help, according to a news release distributed by the local children services agency and Jason Campbell, president of JCFilms.

Nikki Harless, director of Richland County Children Services, will accept the "Foster Family Fun Packs" from Cain.

“This is such a wonderful project and we’re so excited to be a part of it,” she said.

Tickets to "Joey and Rex Save the Church" are available at Crossroads Church on Park Avenue West or by going online at JCFilms.org.

General admission tickets are $7. Tickets for a VIP event hosted by Cain and actor Eddie McClintock are $100.
