DeAngelo returns to Wyoming Area School Board

Feb. 8—EXETER — Nick DeAngelo returned to the Wyoming Area School Board Tuesday thanks to five sitting members voting to have him fill a seat vacated by Paul Porfirio, who resigned for health reasons Jan. 24. The board advertised for letters of interest and received three, from DeAngelo, Ryan Foy and Patricia Morgan.

At Monday's special meeting both Foy and DeAngelo were nominated by board members, with the first vote for DeAngelo. The vote was 5-3, with Toni Valenti, Leonard Pribula, Joseph Kopko, David Alberigi and Board President Lara Best voting for DeAngelo, who was immediately sworn in and participated in the remainder of the short meeting.

DeAngelo lost a bid for re-election in the November, 2021 general election despite having cross-filed and appearing on both the Democratic and Republican ballots. The loss was due, at least in part, to Profirio and Kopko running successfully as independents after skipping the spring primary.

DeAngelo has the seat until the start of December. A 2-year seat will be added to the primary ballot this spring and to the general election ballot this November to fill the other two years remaining on Porfirio's term.

The short voting session included approving CM3 Building Solutions as provider for a guaranteed energy savings contract. Sealed bids were due by Feb. 3, and were opened that same day.

The board also approved five fundraisers requested by the Wyoming Area Baseball Parents Association, and denied a a grievance filed by an employee only identified by number.
